Days 1 – 3: Into the Woods
You’ll be given a warm and friendly greeting on arrival at Lilongwe International Airport, and then it’s time to sit back on a 4-hour road transfer to Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve. Malawi’s biggest and oldest conservation area, Nkhotakota is dominated by open woodland and patches of rainforest; it’s a bird watching paradise and home to elephants, monkeys and antelope. Check in at Tongole Wilderness Lodge – the only high-end lodge in the reserve – and plan your days ahead: there are morning and afternoon game drives on offer as well as bush walks and canoeing adventures.
Days 4 – 6: A Mountain Retreat
It’s an early start and a 4-hour road transfer today but well worth it – your destination is the remote Nyika National Park, a high altitude (2500 metres above sea level) area of rich grasslands and forest pockets. It’s one of Malawi’s most beautiful reserves and home to zebra, leopard, rare antelope and smaller predators such as hyena and jackal. You’ll enjoy it all from Chelinda Lodge, an elegant mountain retreat complete with dramatic views and stone and timber chalets. Activities range from game drives and bush walks to mountain biking, horse riding and fly fishing.
Days 7 – 10: Island Life
A shared charter flight takes you from Nyika’s high grasslands to the golden beaches of Lake Malawi where you’ll check in at multi award-winning Kaya Mawa, an intimate lakeside resort with an island setting. Accommodation takes the form of uniquely designed cottages with private decks and en suite bathrooms. Romantics may want to book the honeymoon chalet, sitting in splendid isolation on its own island, accessed via boat or walkway and complete with private pool and sunken bath. Activities on offer range from scuba diving and snorkelling to quad-biking, kite surfing and kayaking.
Day 11: The Journey Ends
After breakfast and perhaps a final morning activity, you’ll transfer by air to Lilongwe International Airport (approx one hour) for your onward connection and the end of this tour.
All transfers by road and air starting and ending in Lilongwe, all accommodation on a full board basis, all local drinks at Tongole, all activities (except motorized water sports at Kaya Mawa).Excludes:
