Days 1 – 2: A Safari Start
The tour opens as it means to continue: with a safari camp surrounded by wildlife and wilderness. The Elephant Camp sits on a private reserve several miles from the town of Victoria Falls and its famous waterfall. You can sit on your outside deck and watch the spray from Victoria Falls billowing skywards but your attention might be diverted by a herd of elephants at the camp’s waterhole. There’s time to interact with orphaned elephants at the local sanctuary, and after a trip to see the ‘Smoke that Thunders’, why not book one of the area’s many activities? There are sunset cruises, elephant-back safaris and walks with lion cubs as well as markets to visit and even bungee jumping to brave. Your air-conditioned tented suite has a full bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers and a private plunge pool.
Days 3 – 5: Into the Wild
With its rewarding mix of water habitats, grassland and wooded savannah, Mana Pools National Park has long been a favourite destination for safari aficionados. Its northern border nothing less than the teeming Lower Zambezi River, it is home to large numbers of elephant, hippo, buffalo and predators – big cats, wild dogs and crocodiles. Mana Pools is also a birdwatcher’s paradise. Your accommodation is newly-opened Little Ruckomechi, an intimate tented camp located in a private concession within the park. Expert guides lead day and night game drives plus canoe and boat safaris in search of big game. Guided walks add another dimension to your experience. Back at camp you’ll enjoy the unique atmosphere of an authentic safari camp – lamp-lit suites and star-lit suppers.
Day 6: The Journey Ends
After breakfast and perhaps a last game drive, you’ll fly back to Victoria Falls Airport for your onward flight and the end of this tour.
