Days 1 – 3: Search for the Big 5
After a ‘meet and greet’ at Blantyre Airport, you’ll be introduced to the Majete Wildlife Reserve, care of the friendly staff and highly experienced guides at Mkulumadzi Lodge. This is one of Malawi’s most important reserves and is home to lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino. You’ll head off on game drives and boat safaris in search of them, and you’ll also have the chance to visit local communities and learn a little about life in Big 5 country. Accommodation takes the form of luxurious chalets, set under shady trees and with views of the famous Shire River.
Days 4 – 6: Land of the Hippo
Taking its name from the local word for the hippopotamus, Mvuu Lodge lies in the Liwonde National Park, a mosaic of wetlands and woodlands that hosts elephants, antelope, crocodiles and of course the eponymous hippos. It’s a 4-hour road transfer to get here but you’ll be rewarded with the best bird watching in Malawi as well as a choice of activities including day and night game drives in open vehicles, guided walks and boat safaris. Accommodation is in the form of large ‘Hemingway’ tents, each with a thatched roof, en suite facilities and a private viewing deck.
Days 7 – 10: Lakeside Luxury
It’s around 3 hours overland from Mvuu to the shores of Lake Malawi where you’ll check in at Pumulani Lodge. A modern, clean-lined lodge with a hillside setting, Pumulani overlooks Lake Malawi’s dazzling blue waters and has everything you need for an active holiday. You can go diving, sailing, snorkelling or water skiing, or go on cultural tours, bird watching trips or mountain biking. There’s also plenty of time for those who don’t feel so active – after all, Pumulani translates as ‘rest well’ in the local language. Air-conditioned chalets with en suite facilities and private viewing decks ensure complete comfort.
Day 11: The Journey Ends
After breakfast and goodbyes, it’s a short transfer to the nearby town of Monkey Bay and a flight to Lilongwe International Airport for the end of the tour and your onward connection.
All transfers by road and air starting in Blantyre and ending in Lilongwe, accommodation on a full board basis, local drinks, activities (except motorized water sports) and laundry.Excludes:
