What Regions or Countries to Combine

One of Kenya’s smallest conservation areas, Amboseli National Park is best experienced as part of a larger itinerary in Kenya – and even beyond.

Top of the list of destinations to combine with Amboseli is of course Kenya’s flagship reserve, the Masai Mara. Home to the wildebeest migration, the ‘Mara’ remains one of Africa’s best destinations for big game regardless of the time of year and is easy to access – most of our tours feature charter flights between the two destinations. Other possible destinations in Kenya are the Samburu National Park, the private Lewa Conservancies and Mount Kenya, each offering a different aspect to the Kenyan landscape, its culture and its wildlife.

And thanks to Amboseli’s location close to the border with Tanzania, it is relatively easy to combine Kenya and Tanzania on a single safari itinerary, giving you the best of Kenya along with Tanzania’s ‘unmissables’ – the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Such combinations assure the traveller of amazing bio-diversity and many excellent photographic opportunities.

Masai Mara

Packed with wildebeest from June to October, the Masai Mara also delivers excellent game viewing all year round & is particularly famous for its predators. Choose between lodges in the park itself & those in private concessions offering additional safari activities; be sure to take a dawn hot-air balloon safari for the best views of all.

Samburu NP

Kenya’s unique northern park is home to big cats & wild dogs as well as elephants & unusual desert creatures. 1. Go on a game drive

Go on morning & afternoon game drives with expert guides to see Amboseli’s wildlife; vehicles are open sided & raised off the ground for easy views & photography. Some lodges offer a full-day game drive with picnic lunch.

2. See Mount Kilimanjaro

The soft light of dawn & sunset gives the best views of Africa’s highest peak but ‘Kili’ is an awe-inspiring sight any time of day, especially with a herd of elephants grazing on the savannah in front of it.

3. Walk Amboseli
