When to Go

Travel to Mozambique in dry season

Travel to Mozambique during the country’s long dry season to enjoy the best beach weather. The months of May to August are mild, sunny and dry; September to November is warmer and with occasional showers.

This period happily coincides with the best months for diving and migrating marine life: whale sharks from October to March/April; humpback whales between June and October and dolphins in large numbers in June, July and August. It also coincides with the best time of year for big game safaris in South Africa’s Kruger Park, Botswana and Victoria Falls.

The rainy season is at its peak in January and February and into March. The risk of malaria is at its highest and it is cyclone season – especially in Vilanculos and the Bazaruto Archipelago region. Mozambique travel is not recommended at this time.

Nov/ Dec/ Jan/ Feb
Hot & wet, especially Jan & Feb when cyclone season in Bazaruto/Vilanculos
Mar/ Apr
Cooler & drier weather
May - Oct
Best time for a beach holiday & for diving/snorkelling . Best time for a safari & beach combination

What to Do

Your Mozambique beach holiday

1. Kick Off your Shoes

Mozambique’s long Indian Ocean coast is dusted with clusters of tropical islands; expect gorgeous white-sand beaches & well-placed hammocks at both family-friendly resorts & honeymoon hideaways.

2. Grab a Mask & Snorkel

Home to marine reserves & private conservation islands, Mozambique’s archipelagos offer some of the best snorkelling & diving in Africa. Snorkel along a reef near shore of the islands.

3. Ride a Horse on the Beach

Thunder along a beach on horseback, sunny Mozambique is one of the best places to do it. Horse safaris are offered on the Vilanculos coast & Benguerra Island – the ride ends with a swim for the two of you!

4. Escape to a Private Island

Mozambique’s Quirimbas Archipelago is where you’ll experience ‘Crusoe-chic’ at its most sophisticated: exclusive-use islands, tucked-away villas & palm-fringed pampering. It’s the perfect romantic retreat.

5. Swim with Whale Sharks

Mozambique is one of the world’s best places to see & even swim with the planet’s biggest fish. These gentle giants are active close to the surface, making for excellent sightings – ask us about the best places.

6. Enjoy the Local Culture

Take a break from the beach & discover Mozambique’s cosmopolitan history. It’s a great opportunity for photography & your guided tour includes local markets, Portuguese forts & churches.

7. Dive the Indian Ocean

Surrounded by premier diving sites, an underwater wonderland for divers, with a rich variety of tropical fish species complemented by Africa’s only population of the rare dugong.

8. Catch the Big One

The deep Mozambique Channel, which runs alongside the islands, is renowned for its game fish and the archipelago offer some of the world’s best catch-and-release deep sea fishing and fly fishing opportunities.

Would highly recommend. Safari online asked questions when booking and were efficient and knew exactly what we were looking for in terms of accommodation and animals were wanted to see. Gave advice on a few little extras with no pressure, which we did and am very grateful which make trip even more exciting. Would definitely recommend booking with them.

Professional, quick and top of the edge service!!!

From the very first contact we’re very happy about the respond time and quality of information from safari-online.com. Based on the received first tailor-made quote, which is a weblink with all the details about the flights, photos of the lodges etc. we knew that this is “our” partner for this trip. Our expectations were excelled!!!

It was a safari of a lifetime and exceeded all of our expectations!

Our mom grew up in Central and South Africa so we had visited the continent many times. My sister and I wanted to take our teens and husbands to Africa to experience the magic. We had a limited budget but big and specific expectations and by some miracle Walter was able to manage both.

Walter has always been an excellent communicator and has supported us fully

We have been to Africa for 24 of the last 27 years so know a bit about what is involved. Walter has arranged the details for the last couple of years, and has done a superb job. He is always quick to respond and comes up with answers immediately……..no evasive tactics, always head-on!

Karina was absolutely instrumental to our safari success.

Our experience with Safari Online was excellent. After becoming very frustrated trying to search for a safari destination on our own, we turned to Karina for help and she was a lifesaver.  We had an amazing safari adventure at the lodge–the experience of a lifetime–and are so grateful for her help. We literally couldn’t have done it without her!
