What Regions or Countries to Combine
A Swakopmund holiday is usually part of a bigger itinerary featuring Namibia’s other top destinations such as Sossusvlei, Damaraland and Etosha National Park. And as it lies on the Namib Desert coast halfway between the dunes of Sossusvlei and the big game of Etosha, Swakopmund is the perfect stop-over destination between the two. As for Namibia’s more remote destinations such as the Skeleton Coast and the Kaokoveld, Swakopmund serves as the ideal jumping off-point for fly-in safaris. Our best combinations with Swakopmund are:

The enormous red dunes of Sossusvlei are included on most Namibian itineraries; there are big dunes outside Swakopmund but nothing compares to the behemoths at Sossusvlei. Accommodation lies close to the dunes or some distance away – ask us for the best lodge for your requirements.

You don’t have to travel far from Swakopmund to find Damaraland, one of the most beautiful regions of Namibia and home to desert-adapted elephant, black rhino and even lions. You’ll find some of the most romantic accommodations in Damaraland – it’s an ideal honeymoon retreat.

Namibia’s premier big game destination, Etosha is at its best in the long dry season when animals are famously concentrated around waterholes. We recommend staying at a private reserve adjoining the national park. You’ll have easy access to Etosha but by staying in a private reserve you’ll also enjoy exclusive sightings as well as guided walks and spot-lit night drives. Lodges overlook private waterholes favoured by black rhino.
