Itinerary

Day 1: The Adventure Begins

Board Rovos Rail in Pretoria & sit back as the train makes its way to the Zimbabwe border. Spend the night aboard the train on a full-board basis.

As soon as you arrive at Rovos Rail’s station in Pretoria, there’s no mistaking the theme of this trip: a return to the glory days of travel. Rovos Rail is all about sitting back in an armchair and letting the landscape entertain you. Polished wood and brass fittings, thick carpets and subtle lighting create an bygone atmosphere, and you’ll be settled into your accommodation by your butler as the train eases its way towards the Zimbabwean border where you’ll overnight, dressing – of course – for dinner.

Day 2: Africa Unfolds

Cross the border & relax aboard the train as you travel through Zimbabwe & to Bulawayo. Overnight on board on a full-board basis.

After border-crossing formalities you’ll watch the Zimbabwean landscape roll by; classic views of rolling farmland, dotted villages and flat-topped hills. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served on the train today; in between, it’s a day of leisure as the train heads towards Bulawayo. Meet fellow passengers in the lounge or dining cars, catch up with some reading or simply enjoy the view.

Day 3: A Big Game Safari

Travel a short distance to the Hwange National Park & disembark for a game drive. Overnight on board on a full-board basis.

The morning is spent travelling alongside Zimbabwe’s heavyweight game reserve – Hwange National Park. Tantalising views of wooded savannah and big game beckon and after lunch you’ll disembark for a game drive, care of The Hide safari lodge. You’ll be in the company of a sharp-eyed guide who’ll be on the lookout for Hwange’s signature species: lion, elephant, buffalo and giraffe. Back on board, you can trade safari stories over dinner as you travel to your overnight stop.

Day 4: The Journey Ends

Arrive at Victoria Falls mid-morning for the end of your train journey.

Breakfast is served aboard today and by mid-morning you’ll be coming to a halt in Victoria Falls, the end of the journey. There are many accommodation options on both sides of Victoria Falls – Zimbabwe and Zambia. Talk to us about the lodge best suited to your requirements and we’ll make the necessary bookings.
