Highlights of this Safari
- Rewarding Kalahari, Okavango & Chobe Combination
- Explore Savuti – Botswana’s ‘Predator Capital’
- Game Drives, Walks & Water Activities
- Walk to Victoria Falls from Hotel
Days 1 – 2: Beautiful, private Kalahari location
Set in a private concession, the lodge offers the best of both worlds: game drives in the reserve itself plus night drives in the concession. Rare and unusual animals are seen with the aid of a spotlight and this, together with the chance to interact with San Bushman on guided walks, delivers a comprehensive Kalahari safari. Choose the timing of your visit carefully: the dry season promises excellent waterhole-based game viewing but it’s in the green summer months that the Kalahari comes alive.
Days 3 – 4: An Okavango Island
A private island location gives Delta Camp the opportunity to offer water-based safaris all year round, and subsequently this small and intimate tented camp specialises in game viewing by mokoro (traditional canoe) and on foot. Activities take part in the next-door Moremi Game Reserve which means excellent wildlife viewing as well as exciting animal-tracking adventures with your born-and-bred local guide. Complete with romantic delta views from its balcony, each chalet at Delta Camp is en suite with solar-powered electric lighting.
Days 5 – 6: Moremi Magic
Overlooking a lily-covered lagoon, Sable Alley sits in the Khwai Concession, a famously game-rich region adjoining the Moremi Game Reserve. It is here that the last of the Okavango’s waterways peter out into the sand, and consequently the area attracts much wildlife, especially in the dry season. Elephants, buffalo and hippo are among the heavyweights, and Khwai has a reputation for predators too – lion, leopard and spotted hyena are resident with wild dog packs often moving through the region. Sable Alley offers accommodation in raised tented and timber suites with private bathrooms and fabulous views of Moremi and its wildlife.
Day 7: A Night under the Stars
You enjoy another morning and afternoon game drive today but your evening will be a unique one: lying in open woodland well away from camp are Sable Alley’s Star Beds, sitting five metres / 15 feet above the ground and overlooking a well-frequented waterhole. Each Star Bed has a private bathroom on the lower floor and a bedroom on the uncovered upper deck, complete with grandstand views over the waterhole and unfettered views of the cosmos. Watching over the camp, your Sable Alley guide is on hand to provide meals, enjoyed in a simple dining area with a campfire.
Days 8 – 9: Super Savuti
A region often overlooked on shorter safaris, Savuti is the destination of choice for safari aficionados. Located in the centre of Chobe National Park and fed by a now-permanent river, the region is home to large concentrations of elephant and big predators, especially lion and spotted hyena, locked into an eternal battle for supremacy over the Savuti grasslands. The flat landscape is broken only by the Ghoha Hills, the setting for your accommodation and rewarding you with the best views of any lodge in the area. You’ll explore during morning and afternoon game drives and have the chance to visit a rock art site and catch up with news via the lodge’s complimentary Wi-Fi.
Days 10 – 11: Chobe River Views
It is a morning’s drive to Ngoma Safari Lodge but you’ll sit down to a late lunch overlooking the Chobe River and can plan your full day safari for the next day. Chobe is prime elephant country, and your morning and afternoon game drives are augmented by walking safaris or a spot-lit night drive after dinner, an excellent chance to spot rarely seen and unusual creatures such as porcupines and eagle-owls. Complete with Chobe River views, each of the 8 chalets at Ngoma Lodge has a small patio area with a table and deckchairs plus a private plunge pool.
Days 12 – 13: A Victoria Falls Finale
An early start after breakfast gets you across the border and into Zimbabwe in time for lunch at Victoria Falls. Your destination is ever-popular Ilala Lodge, a friendly and long-serving hotel located at the heart of the town of Victoria Falls. This puts you within walking distance of the world wonder as well as within strolling distance of markets, restaurants and shops. With a full day on hand you have time to arrange a Victoria Falls activity or two – besides a tour of the falls themselves, other top activities include bungee jumping, scenic flights, elephant-back safaris and white-water rafting.
Day 14: The Journey Ends
After breakfast and goodbyes at Ilala Lodge you will be transferred back to the airport for the end of this safari and the commencement of your further travel arrangements.
