Itinerary

Days 1 – 2: An Okavango Sanctuary
A shared charter flight from Maun Airport in Botswana begins the adventure. Your destination is the heart of the Okavango Delta and Xugana Island Lodge. Lying under giant trees on a private island, long-established Xugana has access to water all year round and delivers a traditional Okavango safari. You’ll explore by boat, canoe and on foot, accompanied by expert guides who open up the secrets of this extraordinary natural wonderland. A mokoro (canoe) trip along a shallow river will reveal waterbirds, baby crocodiles and frogs; island walks reveal the delta’s bigger wildlife – antelope, warthogs and baboons. Once you’ve toasted the sunset, sit down to star-lit suppers and fireside stories back at camp.
Days 3 – 4: Moremi Magic
It’s a short flight from Xugana’s airstrip to Camp Moremi, lying at the edge of the delta in the Moremi Game Reserve. With an unbeatable mix of water and land habitats, this corner of the reserve has long had a name for excellent game viewing. Elephants are commonly seen, they even walk through camp on occasion while looking for fruiting trees, and there are many antelope species plus buffalo, giraffe and zebra. With this much on the hoof, Moremi is naturally a predator paradise and is home to big cats, hyenas and wild dogs; it’s also an amazing bird watching destination. Camp Moremi has raised tented suites that overlook a hippo-filled lagoon; each has its own en suite bathroom and viewing deck.

Days 5 – 6: Place of Predators
Another short flight takes you to a remote area of the Chobe National Park where a narrow channel of water feeds a swathe of grassland: Savute. Your accommodation is Savute Safari Lodge, its en suite chalets overlooking the Savute Channel itself. Elephants and antelope are often seen at the water below you but there’s more drama waiting. Savute’s most famous residents are its predators: lions and spotted hyenas do battle over territory while leopards lurk on Savute’s rocky hills. Cheetahs and wild dog packs sweep the area regularly, especially in summer when impala herds give birth and hundreds of migrating zebras arrive. Morning and afternoon game drives take you into the thick of things.
Days 7 – 8: The Smoke that Thunders
A shared charter flight from Savute takes you to Kasane Airport where you’ll be met by a driver and vehicle. After crossing the Zambian border you’ll soon arrive on the banks of the Zambezi River and Tongabezi Lodge, a multi-award winning lodge as comfortable with honeymooners as it is with families. Accommodation is quite unique and features anything from walled cottages to multi-level tree-houses hanging over the river. It’s a 20-minute drive to Victoria Falls from Tongabezi which gives guests plenty of privacy. Transfers to the falls as well as the area’s various activities are all arranged by the lodge, but there’s plenty to do around the lodge too. You can also visit a local community and school sponsored by the lodge.

The Journey Ends
After breakfast at Tongabezi you’ll be driven to Livingstone Airport and your onward flight. If you would like to extend your stay at Victoria Falls by a few days or add on an Indian Ocean beach holiday, just ask us.
