Days 1 - 3: Fly into the Serengeti
Renowned for its predators and home to the dramatic wildebeest migration, the Serengeti is one of Africa’s most impressive game reserves. A Serengeti Wilderness Camp is a mobile one, moving around the savannah to put itself in prime position for the main events of the migration – the birthing season, the great treks, and the infamous river crossings. You enjoy two game drives a day, on the lookout not just for the migrating herds but big cats, wild dogs, elephants and giraffe too. Back at camp, your large and comfortable safari tent comes with solar-powered lighting and en suite bathroom.
Day 4: A Night in Arusha
After breakfast at camp you are transferred back to the airstrip for a flight back to Arusha. You’ll be met and transferred to Rivertrees Country Inn, just 20 minutes from the airport. Formerly part of a grand coffee estate, Rivetrees is the perfect place to recharge batteries – both literal and metaphorical – before the journey to the rainforest and your gorilla trek. There is complimentary Wi-Fi if you’d like to catch up with home as well as a swimming pool set in handsome gardens plus a spa with therapies and treatments available.
Days 5 – 7: Trek for Gorillas
Africa’s equatorial rainforests are a complete contrast to the open plains of the Serengeti. The hilly landscape is covered in thick forest – the Bwindi National Park – and is home to mountain gorillas, monkeys, flocks of butterflies and exotic birds. Buhoma Lodge specialise in gorilla treks – their success rate of finding them is 95% – and they offer a complimentary post-trek massage and boot cleaning service plus a hot water bottle at night. You can pre-purchase a second gorilla permit for the other full day at Buhoma or opt to explore the area and visit a friendly Batwa village.
Day 8: The Journey Ends
After breakfast and goodbyes at Buhoma Lodge, you transfer back to the local Kihihi airstrip for a scheduled flight back to Entebbe Airport and your onward travel connection or accommodation.
