Itinerary
Day 1: To the Forest
Arrive at Entebbe airport where an Aerolink member of staff helps you check in for your domestic flight to Kihihi Airstrip. It’s only an hour’s flight, saving you untold hours by road and once at Kihihi you’ll be welcomed by your guide who will transfer you to Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge – a transfer time of two hours. There’s time to relax and settle in before dinner – you may want to stroll down to the local village and check out the friendly bar, a local community project and your instant insight in what life in Bwindi is like.
Day 2: In Search of Gorillas
It’s an early start to the day and walking conditions in the wet and muddy rainforest are far from ideal but the reward is an hour spent in the company of giant mountain gorillas, habituated to our presence and content to let us sit with them undisturbed. Guides and rangers lead the way – you may also see other primates and forest birds too – and if you are lucky, you’ll have an afternoon back at the lodge. Bear in mind however that gorilla trekking may take most of the day. Back at camp you’ll be glad to find that there is an in-house masseuse as well as a comfortable bar and dining areas with grand views over the forest.
Day 3: A Day of Discovery
You can go gorilla trekking again today (requiring additional permits) but most visitors like to use this time to discover the other side to the Bwindi environment. Guided forest walks reveal clouds of brightly coloured butterflies and shy birds while a tour to a Batwa Pygmy community reveals fascinating stories about the life of these jungle-dwellers. You can also support the local community by visiting their health clinic and tasting some of the tea grown in the area.
Day 4: The Journey Ends
You’ll transfer to the local airstrip for your flight back to Entebbe for the end of your tour and onward connection. Leave with the 09:45 flight and arrive at 11:25 or take the 14:05 and arrive at 15:55.
