Itinerary

Days 1 – 2: Discover the Rainforest

Arrive at Kigali International Airport & meet your guide for a road transfer over the border & into Uganda. Check in at Mount Gahinga Lodge, set at the foot of the Virunga Volcanoes, for 2 nights on a full board basis.

Arrive in Kigali for a warm welcome from your guide who will accompany you throughout your safari. A 4-hour drive lies ahead so sit back and watch Rwanda pass by as you enter Uganda and head for Mount Gahinga Lodge, enjoying prime position at the foot of the Virunga Volcanoes. Here you’ll enjoy a fascinating tour with Batwa Pygmies, learning about their forest traditions. It is possible to go gorilla trekking in the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park but you’ll need to organise an extra trekking permit as your inclusive gorilla permit is for Rwanda. Other activities include hikes to volcanoes as well as local communities.

Days 3 – 5: In the Shadows of Volcanoes

Track golden monkeys before travelling by road back to Rwanda & Virunga Volcanoes Lodge for 3 nights on a full board basis. Your gorilla trek will take place during your stay here & there are many other activities on offer.

You’ll head back to Rwanda today but not before you’ve searched for golden monkeys in the bamboo forests of Mgahinga. Arriving at Volcanoes Virunga Lodge after lunch still leaves you time to settle in at camp and sit back to enjoy an exuberant display of song and dance from a local troupe. You then have two full days to explore: one day will be taken up by your gorilla trek (you’ll need to arrange additional permits if you want to go gorilla trekking more than once) but there’s plenty to do the next day. You could hike to crater beaches (Lake Kivu has one of the finest lake beaches in Africa) pay homage at Dian Fossey’s grave or visit friendly local villages.

Day 6: The Journey Ends

Drive to Kigali Airport for the end of the tour & your onward connection.

Your safari ends with a drive back to Kigali Airport and your connecting flight. Depending on the time of your departing flight, there may be time to tour the city.
