Days 1 – 4: To the Zambezi
The Lower Zambezi National Park opens this safari. Kasaka River Lodge is set deep in the park itself and had river views as well as an unmistakably authentic atmosphere. Each of the eight chalets has its own bathroom and private veranda, and there is also a honeymoon suite and a four-sleeper family unit. Morning and afternoon game drives are the best way to see the teeming wildlife of the Zambezi Valley but this is a camp that offers water-based activities too – boat cruises, canoe adventures and fishing trips. You’ll also have the chance to go walking with your guide, and if you are a bird watcher then make sure you bring your binoculars – this park has recorded nearly 400 different species.
Days 5 – 8: The Luangwa Wilderness
You’ll trade the Zambezi River for the Luangwa River today. Two local flights get you to Flatdogs Camp, set on the banks of the Luangwa just outside the South Luangwa National Park. It’s a relaxed and family-friendly lodge, complete with an 8-sleeper family house. Morning and afternoon game drives are the main focus here, led by sharp-eyed guides. You’ll have plenty of time to really explore this famously game-rich area – full-day game drives are offered as are walking safaris – and if you are interested in the human aspect of Luangwa, the lodge will organise a visit to the nearby Mfuwe village. Here you can visit the anti-poaching base and local community projects supported by Flatdogs Camp.
Day 9: The Journey Ends
After breakfast overlooking the Luangwa River it will be time to transfer to a local airstrip for your flight back to Lusaka Airport and the end of this tour. If you’d like a couple of nights in Victoria Falls, simply let us know and we can add it to the beginning or end of this safari.
