Born and raised in South Africa, Lindsey developed a curiosity for travel through the stories shared with friends and family working in the travel industry. She completed her diploma in Travel and Tourism in 2000 and gained experience in the aviation industry as well as the retail travel sector. Being creative is her biggest strength and her passion is to create memorable experiences for travellers to Southern Africa, and for them to love it as much as she does. With South Africa being a melting pot of cultures, full of beautiful beaches, wildlife and mountains, there is nowhere else that she would rather call home. She and her family love the opportunity to get close to nature every chance they get.
While on an early morning game drive in Botswana’s Chobe National Park, all was still and serene until, out of nowhere, an impala jumped out of the bush in plain view of the vehicle … with a pack of wild dogs coming from every direction towards it. The coordination and teamwork of the pack was remarkable; the dogs’ odd high-pitched squeaking and chirping added to the unfolding spectacle. Of all the kills to witness on safari, wild dog kills are by far the most dramatic. We were all so caught up in this moment that we did not note the sounds of a bull elephant approaching from the bush behind us. This is not typically the situation you wish to find yourself in! But the guides were outstanding and knew exactly how to keep all their guests calm and safe while slowly manoeuvring away from the enormous elephant. This safari had my heart pounding; I guess this is what it means to have Africa in your heart!
Safari on foot is by far the best way to get really intimate with the bush and observe the small creatures of the bush. Engaging all your senses, from the sights and sound to the smell of the earth and the feel of the terrain beneath your feet. Walking safaris led by experienced guides offer valuable insights into the environment, wildlife tracking and the intricate ecosystems that support life in the wilderness. Unlike traditional game drives, which are just as exciting, walking safaris allow for more flexibility in exploring remote areas.
