Best travel period

When to go

For a combined itinerary that includes the Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park, Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe side), Sabi Sand Game Reserve, and Cape Town, the most rewarding period is generally the dry season from May to October. This window aligns excellent safari conditions in Botswana and South Africa with comfortable weather in Cape Town, while also offering dramatic views of Victoria Falls.

During these months, the Okavango Delta is at its peak, with wildlife congregating around permanent water channels between July and October, making game drives and mokoro excursions unforgettable. Chobe National Park shines from May to October as elephants and other animals gather along the Chobe River, offering spectacular boat safaris and predator sightings.

On the Zimbabwean side, Victoria Falls is most powerful from March to June, when the Zambezi River is in full flood, creating a thunderous curtain of spray. By July to September, water levels drop, allowing clearer views of the rock face and making adventure activities like swimming in Devil’s Pool and white‑water rafting possible; perfectly timed to match your safari circuit.

In South Africa, the Sabi Sand Game Reserve is best visited from May to September, when dry conditions thin the vegetation and wildlife gathers at waterholes, ensuring excellent Big Five sightings. Finally, Cape Town enjoys its mild winter during this period, with crisp days, dramatic scenery, and fewer crowds. By September and October, spring arrives, bringing wildflowers to the Cape and warmer weather, making it an ideal finale to your journey.
