Best travel period

When to go

The “Tanzania Safari & the Nile River” itinerary is best experienced during the dry season, from June to October, when weather conditions are optimal across both Tanzania and Uganda. In Tanzania, this period coincides with the classic dry season, offering cooler mornings, clear skies, and excellent road conditions for game drives in Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, and the Serengeti. Wildlife is concentrated around remaining water sources, making sightings of elephants, lions, giraffes, and other iconic African animals much more reliable. For those interested in the Great Wildebeest Migration, July through October is particularly exciting, as herds move through the northern Serengeti and river crossings occur, creating some of the most dramatic safari spectacles in the world. Meanwhile, Uganda’s Nile region enjoys mild, mostly dry conditions, making river activities and lodge stays pleasant.

The itinerary is least favorable from March to May, during the long rains. Heavy downpours, particularly in April, can make safari roads muddy and difficult to traverse, and wildlife tends to disperse, reducing the likelihood of sightings. Travel logistics, including flights and transfers, can also be disrupted by rainy conditions. While the wet season brings lush green landscapes and abundant birdlife, it is generally not ideal if your focus is on classic safari wildlife viewing or smooth travel conditions.
