For many first-time visitors, Zimbabwe offers the quintessential Victoria Falls experience.
Approximately 75% of the waterfall can be viewed from Zimbabwe, making it the preferred side for panoramic vistas and dramatic photography. The extensive network of walking trails within Victoria Falls National Park provides numerous viewpoints, allowing guests to appreciate the immense scale and power of the falls throughout the year.
Advantages of Staying in Zimbabwe

- A larger selection of viewpoints and walking trails.
- Easy access to the historic town of Victoria Falls, with its restaurants, galleries, markets, and vibrant atmosphere.

Considerations
- During peak water flow (typically March to May), the spray can be incredibly intense. While spectacular, visitors should expect to get thoroughly wet and may find photography more challenging.
- The town is generally livelier and busier than Livingstone, which some travelers enjoy, while others may prefer a quieter setting.
Zambia: A More Intimate Perspective
Zambia offers a completely different experience—closer, quieter, and often more adventurous.
Rather than providing sweeping panoramas, Zambia allows visitors to experience the falls from remarkably close quarters. Walking along the edge of the gorge, guests can feel the thunder beneath their feet and appreciate the immense force of the water.
The Zambian side is particularly renowned for seasonal experiences such as Devil’s Pool, where adventurous visitors can swim naturally at the very edge of the falls during periods of low water.

Considerations
- Only around 25% of the waterfall is visible from Zambia, and during the dry season (approximately October to December), parts of the falls may have little or no flowing water.
- Travelers whose primary goal is to admire the full width of Victoria Falls may find the Zimbabwean side more rewarding.

Can You Visit Both Sides?
Absolutely—and we often recommend it.
Most luxury itineraries include accommodation on one side while allowing guests to cross the border for a day excursion to experience the other. The two towns are connected by the historic Victoria Falls Bridge, making it relatively straightforward to explore both countries, provided visa requirements have been arranged in advance.
Experiencing both perspectives offers a fuller appreciation of this remarkable natural wonder.

There is no “better” side of Victoria Falls—only the side that best matches your interests.
Choose Zimbabwe if your priority is witnessing the most spectacular panoramic views and enjoying the classic Victoria Falls experience. The Town of Victoria Falls is certainly more commercial and busy. Classic hotels are Ilala Lodge, Palm River Hotel, Insika & Old Drift. Great if you are looking for BB option & more flexibility.
Choose Zambia if you prefer a quieter atmosphere, close-up encounters, and unique seasonal adventures such as Devil’s Pool. Great for Honeymooners. Some wonderful lodges include Tongabezi, Mukwa River Lodge, Thorntree River Lodge & Toka Leya. Excellent if you want to relax and enjoy fully inclusive with activities.
